From a security finding to a remediation decision

Follow a practical, seven-step workflow that connects security findings to affected assets, business risk, relevant controls, and accountable owners. Learn how remediation evidence and verification support clearer priorities and better security decisions.

This guide describes a security operating workflow. It is an evaluation aid; it does not represent a customer case study or a screenshot of the product.

Connect the decision

  1. Record the finding and its source. Preserve the affected system, detection time, and technical context so another reviewer can understand the issue.
  2. Identify the affected asset and its business importance. A finding on a critical service may require a different response from the same finding on an isolated test system.
  3. Review the asset risk profile. Consider exposure, existing safeguards, dependencies, and potential business impact before assigning a priority.
  4. Connect the finding to the relevant risk and control. Record the rationale for any framework mapping rather than assuming that closing a finding proves compliance.
  5. Assign a remediation owner and a target date. Define the corrective action and the evidence needed to verify it.
  6. Validate the result. Retest the issue, attach evidence, and record any remaining risk or approved exception.
  7. Report the decision. Show executives which business services remain exposed, who owns the work, and what decisions or resources are needed.

What to bring to an evaluation

Use a sanitized finding and asset record, your control references, and an ownership model. Ask the team to walk through the connections and confirm which steps and integrations are available for your evaluation scope. Avoid sharing live credentials or sensitive incident data.
